first off, i just wanna say that when i first saw this on deviantart's main page, i thought that someone had taken a picture of a pinecone. But when i clicked on it to see why da heck someone would take a picture of a pinecone with a white background, i saw that it was a drawing. Really nice work. Now i shall critique each area individually.
vision: i really like the way you positioned the pine cone so i can get a good idea of the shape. good job with this area.
originality: im not very good at critiquing originality. so yah....
technique: i have some stuff to say about this subject. i really like your shading on the pinecone, great job. But the shadow needs a little work. the shape of the pinecone is very well put together. I like how you gave each piece its own individual shape. but i have noticed that towards the top and around the upper left hand area, the pieces seem to stick out more than the rest of the cone. Perhaps, you could position them a bit closer to the other cones. Now, i understand you may have intended it that way, so if you did, then feel free to ignore that last comment. XD
impact: I always try to find a meaning behind a photo or a drawing. And when i see this pine cone, i get a sense of individuality. The cone is all you pay attention to because its all there is to pay attention to. I like how you didn't bother to add a background. Sometimes people add too much detail to their work and it kinda makes it worse. My motto for that is: More is less, and less is more. great job!
I love your work and hope to see more of it when i add you to my watch list. This kind of artwork deserves a llama. ;D
The shadow of the pinecone helps to creates defenition for the artwork.
The colours used in this art work bring the pinecone out of the page and to life. It is allmost as if the pinecone seeds are coming out of the page.
All the detail applyed to the pinecone with all the variating colours mkes the artwork very interesting to look at. The warm colours of the subject matter contrasts lively with the shadow and complents the artwork beautifly.
This artwork is may not be that original although it has its own originality to it that comes with an experenced artist with their own refined talents, techniques and preferences.
